Frank Lampe's son charged with 2nd-degree murder in father's death

The son of a 58-year-old man found dead in a Halifax apartment building last month has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his father, according to Halifax Regional Police.

A 20-year-old man charged with second-degree murder after his 58-year-oldfather was found dead last month at a Halifax apartment has been sent for a court-orderedpsychiatricassessment.

The body of Frank John Lampe of Labrador was discoveredin the hallway of an apartment building at 10 Harlington Cres. in Clayton Park on the night of Jan. 21.

His 20-year-old son, Elias Lampe, was found a short time later near a Halifax Transit stop on Willett Street. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Elias Lampewas released from hospital Monday and was arrested around 8:20 a.m. without incident, police said.

In addition to murder, hefaces a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He appeared in Halifax provincial court Tuesday morning. He's been sent to the East Coast Forensic Hospital for a fitness assessment and will return to court March 10.

Police say the father and sonlived together at the Harlington Crescent apartment.
