Fort McMurray wildfire inspires Cape Breton musician Keith Mullins to pen song

Cape Breton musician Keith Mullins is encouraging fans to donate to the relief effort in Fort McMurray with a new song he wrote in half and hour.

Keith Mullins wrote Hard Working Hands in Tragedy after seeing many negative social media posts about the wildfire.

He said he couldn't believe the posts slagging the people of Fort McMurray.

"I felt I had to tell the world how I felt and obviously a lot of people felt that way as well because it's been getting shares a lot," he said.

Mullins told CBC's Weekend Mornings the song flowed out of him and he wrote it in 30 minutes. It took about five days to gather up the musicians and get studio time.

Once in the studio, Mullins said the song was recorded, mixed and mastered in three and a half hours.

It is available for free off his website, but Mullins does have one request.

"All I ask is that you contribute in your own way to #yymfire," he wrote.

Mullins said the song was written with emergency responders in mind.

"It's been great. It's been getting tons of likes and shares. I just think that I am maybe putting to words the way a lot of people feel," he said.
