Colleen Jones's Mayflower rink wins Nova Scotia senior curling championship

Colleen Jones's Mayflower rink won their second straight Nova Scotia senior women's curling championship yesterday, earning a spot in next month's nationals.

Jones led the team as skip, along with third Kim Kelly, second Mary Sue Radford and lead Nancy Delahunt. They beat Colleen Pinkney's Truro rink 7-6.

"Winning feels amazing a shot of adrenaline shoots through you. I've won at juniors, women's and now seniors. [The] feeling is the exact same of 'yes!' with a massive exclamation point," said Jones.

"Our goal is to win the Canadian championship and go to the worlds. We lost in the final of the Canadians last year in Edmonton and that feeling made us mad and we realized we needed to keep working at our game and take it up a notch."

Jones, Kelly and Delahunt worked together to win the Canadian championship five times. With Radford, they want to win their first national senior event (ages 50+).

Jones's many wins include six Scott Tournament of Hearts and two world championships. She is also a long-time CBC broadcaster and has covered sporting events around the world.

Alan O'Leary the 2014 national senior men's gold medalist led Andrew Dauphinee, Danny Christianson and Harold McCarthy to the Nova Scotia senior men's title.

Team Hubley-Bolivar took the wheelchair title with a victory by skip Trendal Hubley-Bolivar, third Terry Cousineau, second Keith Williams and lead Debbie Morgan.

All of the matches took place in the Highland Curling Club near Antigonish, N.S.

The Canadian Seniors Curling Championship will be held in Digby from March 28 to April 2.
