Boston terrier named Homer goes missing after Cole Harbour break-in

A mother in Cole Harbour returned home on Tuesday to find the doors open, quilts rearranged and boxes out of place but was most alarmed when she realized her three-year-old Boston terrier was missing.

Megan Hadleyquickly grabbed herother dog, a 10-year-old Chihuahua named Hannah, and went back to her vehicle withher nine-month-olddaughter to callpolice.

When officers searched the Wexford Road home, they found signs of a break-in.But Homer, the nine-kilogram Boston terrier, was still missing.

"I just want him to come home," Hadley said Wednesday.

Broken basement window

After discoveringthe break-in, she called her husband, who rushed home.

"We went out back and saw the broken window, so we knew how they got in," said Matt Hadley. "The police pointed out that they tried to smash every other window in the house first."

'My most-prized possession'

Inside, the basement couch where Homer usually curls upwas empty. His collar and leash were also gone. The couple removes Homer's jangly collar when he's in the house because of their newborn.

"He would have been aggressive if somebody were to smash their way in," Hadley said, holding the fire brick used to break the basement window.

Megan Hadley's makeup, flat iron and some pieces of jewellery were also missing.

"They didn't take anything material of mine which I find odd, but my most-prized possession in the house is Homer," he said.

Public plea for help

Police dusted for prints and talked to the neighbours.

"It's a personal level. Breaking into someone's home is one thing, but taking a member of their family" saidneighbour Todd Ali.

The couple has reached out on social media and through a lost dog network online in hopes someone else knew something. Their post on Facebook has been shared thousands of times.

Now, the Hadleys are pleading with the public for help.

"We just wanthim back safely. I don't care about anything else. I just hope that if the dog got transferred to somebody else, that they would realize it wasn't theirs" saidMatt Hadley

Their other dog Hannah cuddles close to Megan Hadley. The house is much quieter than usual.

"I keep looking in the places in my house where he would usually be. This time of day he'd be lying by the window in the sun. But he's not there," she said.
