Chignecto-Central board defers school closure decision

The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board has voted to defer a decision on whether to extend the life of three schools beyond a year from now.

Maitland District Elementary School, Wentworth Consolidated Elementary School and River John Consolidated School are all slated to close in June 2015.

Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development Karen Casey had asked the board to extend that deadline by a year.

The board voted last night to decide next March whether to grant that extension.
