Caribou-Wood Islands ferry needs more help from Ottawa, says P.E.I. premier

Prince Edward Island Premier Wade MacLauchlan says the federal government has to do more to address the troubled ferry service between the Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia.

MacLauchlan says he's working with Transport Canada and the company running the ferries, but that they have shown little initiative in dealing with the problem.

He says the ferry is a critical transport and economic link between P.E.I. and the mainland, but have suffered since one of the vessels was taken out of service for repairs.

MacLauchlan says he is "disappointed" with the response by Northumberland Ferries and Transport Canada to deal with the reduced service.

He adds the decreased crossings are affecting trade and tourism.
