Cape Breton's Cabot Cliffs named best new golf course in North America

Cabot Cliffs golf links in Inverness, Cape Breton, has been open only six months and is already drawing comparisons to some of the world's most venerable courses.

Golf Digest magazine has named Cabot Cliffs links in Inverness, Cape Breton, 2015'sbest new course in North America.

In an article in the magazine's November edition, writer Ron Whitten saysCabot Cliffs"is the second coming of Cypress Point, which in my mind was previously unmatched in its beauty, variety and thrills."

Cypress Point in Pebble Beach, California, is one of the most revered courses in the world.

Cabot Cliffs is adjacent to Cabot Links, which the magazine already ranks 42nd on its list of the world's 100 greatest courses.

Whitten writes that therankings were done by 1,200 low-handicap male and female golfers throughout the United States and Canadawhoplayed and evaluated 47 candidate courses, 10 of which are new.

He calls Cabot Cliffs the "runaway victor."

The course was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.
