Blue Jays Way takes over Halifax's Grand Parade during playoffs

Halifax's mayor says the Blue Jays may have "Toronto" in their name, but the Ontario city isn't the only one with a stake in the team's success.

'It's down as soon as the playoffs are over but it's going to be a long play-off run'

Halifax's mayor says the Blue Jays may have "Toronto" in their name, but the Ontario city isn't the only one with a stake in the team'ssuccess.

"The Toronto Blue Jays don't just belong to one city or one province they're Canada's team," said Mike Savage in a video posted to YouTube.

In honour of the historic run, Savage had a sign put up in Grand Parade that says "Blue Jays Way."

However, if it were up to him, Nova Scotia's support of the Blue Jayswouldn't end in parade square.

"Show your colours, take a pic with the sign and share it along with your favourite Blue Jays stories and memories with the #BlueJaysWay," says Mayor Mike Savage. (Still from YouTube)

"I'm declaring, in honour of their play-off run, the whole province of Nova Scotia is going to be known as Blue Jays way," said the mayor.

A shady character beside the mayor in the video informed Savage he didn't really have that kind of authority. Eventually Savage settled for allowing part of Parade Square to be renamed in honour of this historic Jays team.

"It's down as soon as the playoffs are over but it's going to be a long play-off run," insists the mayor.

"Show your colours, take a pic with the sign and share it along with your favourite Blue Jays stories and memories with the #BlueJaysWay."

He signs off saying, "Go Jays! Bring back the Expos."

It's not clear how Boston Red Sox fans in Halifax feel about this one.

The Jays are down 2-1 in the American League Divisional Seriesagainst the Texas Rangers after their 5-1 win Sunday night staved off elimination.

The team will also need to win two more games in a rowif they hope to advance past the Rangers in the best-of-five series and onto the next round.
