Fatal Beaver Bank crash leaves 1 dead, 2 seriously injured

A 21-year-old man is dead and two young women remain in hospital with serious injuries after an early-morning a crash on Beaver Bank Road outside of Halifax.

A 21-year-old man is dead and two women remain in hospital with serious injuries followinga crash on Beaver Bank Road outside of Halifax.

The man who died was a passenger in the vehicle.

"We arrived at the scene and found that there was one person pronounced dead, a 21-year old man from Beaver Bank," said Staff Sgt. Dave Thibeauwith the Halifax RCMP.

"We believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.The vehicle went off the roadway and there were two people ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle did flip over a few times."

Thibeausays the three other young people were rushed to hospital and the driver has since been released. Police have not released their exact ages.

The single-vehiclecrash happened at around 1:30 Sunday morning near 2028 Beaver Bank Rd.

Thibeau says the Honda Civicwas travelling toward Lower Sackvillewhen it went off the road and continued travelling for about 200 metres before coming to a stopin a ditchafter flipping and passing over a driveway.

RCMP investigators spent several hours at the scene of the crash Sunday morning. There was debris scattered in the area and pools of blood on the road.

A traffic reconstructionist was atthe scene of the crash trying to determine exactly what happened.

Thibeau says they will be looking at whether speed was also a factor.

Beaver Bank Road was closedto traffic near the 2000-block for several hours whileRCMP investigated.

RCMPre-opened the road around11 a.m.
