Efficiency Nova Scotia offers cash for old appliance pickup

How would you like to recycle an old freezer, andreceive cash from the folks who haul it away for you?

Efficiency Nova Scotia is making that offerthrough its Appliance Retirement Program.

Here's how it works: People hired by Efficiency Nova Scotia will pick up your old fridge or freezer for recyclingand give you $30.

If you add an air conditioner, you'll get an extra $10.

Throw in a small fridge or freezer, and you'll collect an additional $10.

The appliance must be at least 10 years old andin working order to qualify for pick-up.

Recycle responsibly

It's a way torecycle the appliances responsiblyby removing the CFCs from the system,Efficiency Nova Scotia says.

The organization also has depots for collecting and recycling household items which contain mercury,such as light bulbs, florescent lights, thermostats and medical devices.
