Alleged abuser's extradition appeal dismissed

The Nova Scotia Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal of a former Port Hawkesbury businessman who argued he was not properly extradited from India to face 43 sex-related charges in the province.

The Appeal Courtdismissed Ernest Fenwick MacIntosh's application, which was filed in June, to have some or all of the charges against him dropped.

In a written decision released Tuesday, the courtruled that MacIntosh, 65, was properly extradited on all counts and that his charter rights were not breached.

MacIntosh had been in custodyafter he was brought back to Canada from India by authorities in June 2007, but he was released in April after posting $60,000 cash bail. He has been living in the Halifax area and must abide by numerous conditions.

The alleged offences involving nine boys and teenagers date back to the 1970s and 1980s, when MacIntosh had several business interests and was involved with minor hockey in the Strait area.
