Alex Keaveny new Nova Scotia workplace safety prosecutor

The Nova Scotia government has hired a special prosecutor, Alex Keaveny, to work on workplace safety investigations.

Halifax Crown attorney will provide advice to investigators in occupational health and safety cases

Prosecutor Alex Keaveny will be involved in education and training for safety officers and managers at the Department of Labour and Advanced Education.

The Nova Scotia government has hired a specialprosecutor to work on workplace safety investigations.

The province announced Tuesday that Alex Keaveny, a Halifax Crownattorney, will join the special prosecutions section of the PublicProsecution Service.

Keaveny will provide advice to investigators in occupationalhealth and safety cases.

Labour Minister Kelly Regan says she expects Keaveny's appointment will help ensure justice is done when a workplace deathoccurs.

A news release says Keaveny will also be involved in educationand training for safety officers and managers at the Department ofLabour and Advanced Education.

The province announced in February it will hire 17 additionalstaff for its safety division, including inspectors, engineers and adivision focused on education and compliance.
