6 vehicles slid off Highway 102 in morning icy conditions

The accidents happened near the Halifax Stanfield International Airport between exits 5A and 6.

Six vehicles slid off Highway 102 near the Halifax Stanfield International Airport due to icy road conditions on Wednesdaymorning.

The accidents between exits 5A and 6 were not all related, according toRCMP Cpl. Lisa Croteau.

"Just people going off the road and into the median," said Croteau. The vehicles wentoff the road before 8 a.m.

Croteau encouraged drivers to slow down because of black ice and snow on the road.

The Department of Transportation said a salt truckwentthrough the area at 3 a.m.Two more truckswent through at 8 a.m.

"As many vehicles have now switched to summer tires, we encourage all motorists travelling during this weather take extra caution," said department spokesperson Marla McInnis.

The accidentstemporarilyclosedthe outbound lane, which has sincereopened.
