Yukon police review committee named

Yukon Justice Minister Marian Horne has named the 11 members of a committee that has begun reviewing policing in the territory.

Yukon Justice Minister Marian Horne has named the 11 members of a committee that has begun reviewing policing in the territory.

Horne said the committee will advise its co-chairs deputy justice minister Dennis Cooley and Yukon RCMP Supt. Peter Clark on the review's strategic direction, "including its engagement strategy and research agenda," according to a release sent Wednesday.

The advisory committee will include former NDP MLAs Lois Moorcroft and Lorraine Netro, both of whom will represent women's organizations.

Whitehorse Mayor Bev Buckway is on the committee in her capacity as head of the Association of Yukon Communities. As well, the committee has a representative from the Council of Yukon First Nations.

The remaining members come from the Yukon government and the RCMP.

Horne said the committee will identify policing-related issues that are of interest to Yukoners and ensure diverse points of view are considered during the review.
