Yukon Liberals pick former M.P. Larry Bagnell as their candidate in the next federal election.

Bagnell wins nod on first ballot

Larry Bagnell will be the Liberal candidate for the Yukon in the next federal election.

The former M.P. was declared winner after the first ballot count at Saturday's Liberal convention, besting 3 other contenders.

It was a record high turnout for the Yukon Liberal Party with at least 200 supporters attending the afternoon speeches.By days end, 1,432 votes had been cast.Bagnellhad more than required 50 per cent on the first count.

Bagnell told the party faithful they have their work cut out for them.

"After your all rested up we gotta come back and get our Canada back. 70 per cent of the people in the elections didn't vote for the conservatives last time, we have to change their hearts and minds and convince them because most of them don't believe Canada is what it should be and we can make it that"

Bagnell has his sights on winning back the seat Conservative Ryan Leef took from him in the last federal election.

Leef has already been acclaimed to run again,

The Yukon New Democrats andthe Yukon Green Party have yet to talk about their plans for selecting candidates.
