Yukon gov't rejects over budget F.H. Collins bids

The Yukon government is not accepting any of the recent bids to replace Whitehorse's F-H Collins Secondary School.

Three bids came in almost $10 million more thanwhat two independent sources had estimated a new school would cost. The decision to reject the bidscomes after years of planning.

The highest bid estimated the cost of building a new school at $60 million.

Premier Darrell Pasloski said the government must act responsibly.

"But we do a lot of projects that come in on time and on budget, we'll continue to move forward and we are looking at ways of reviewing all of our contracts and that continues to be a mandate with this government to ensure that we get maximum benefit for dollars invested on behalf of Yukon people," Pasloski said.

The government is now looking at a campus-style design for the new school instead of one big building. It promises to have tenders out for the new design this fall.
