Woman sustains serious injury in Yellowknife RCMP cell

A woman was seriously injured in the cells at the Yellowknife RCMP detachment early Thursday morning.

Const.ElenoreSturko, spokesperson for Yellowknife RCMP,said the woman was alone in a securecell at the timeand was being monitored by a guard.She had been arrested, but had not beencharged.

Police say the woman was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital at 1:30 a.m. after sustaining the injury.

RCMP in Yellowknife are looking for an outside agency to conduct an external review of the incident.
