Worker pinned by freight mishap at Whitehorse trucking yard

A woman was sent to hospital in Whitehorse this morning afterfirefighters rescued her from the trailer of a freight truck.

The fire department got a call from the Canadian Freightways trucking yard on Calcite Roadjust after 9:30 a.m., said platoon chief Dave Dowie.

"On arrival we did find that an employee was trapped in a trailer, pinned with a load that had shifted during unloading exercises," he said. "We were able to stabilize the load and extricate the patient."

Dowie said the loadweighedapproximately 550 kilogramswhen it shifted.

The fire department didn't comment on the woman's present condition but said shewas conscious and talking with fire fighters during the rescue.

The woman is an employee atCanadian Freightways. The companysaid it cannot comment on the incident as an investigation bythe Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board is now underway.
