Whitehorse RCMP say driver arrested after not paying for gas

The police say the man was charged with impaired driving after leaving a gas station without paying for fuel.

Whitehorse RCMP say a driver was arrested after leaving a gas station without paying for his fuel.

The police say they received a call just before 11 p.m. about a driver who didn't pay for his fuel at a gas station on Fourth Ave. They located the vehicle a short time later after it struck a curb at a traffic circle, also on Fourth Ave.

Const. Dean Hoogland says an officer believed the driver to be impaired and called for a drug recognition expert to come to the scene.

"The drug recognition expert conducted some testing of the individual and from there a demand was made to get some samples that will be sent to a lab later to determine what type of drug this person had on board," Hoogland says.

The driver was arrested and has been charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle without a drivers license.

The RCMP are asking members of the public to call police when they see suspicious drivers on the roads.

They charged three people with impaired driving within a half-hour last Saturday afternoon in Whitehorse.
