Whitehorse store owner credits police for quick response to break-in

The owner of a downtown Whitehorse business says his store's security system and a quick response by local police helped thwart an attempted robberyearly Sunday morning.

Security camera footage fromMeadia Solutions shows two hooded figures break in and attempt to make off with a couple of computers.

Store owner Trevor Mead-Robinssays they likelyhoped for more.

"I think they had planned on gaining access to the main parts of the building through that room, but we actually have it secured through double deadbolts and solid-core doors," he said.

The thieves set off the store's security system, and Mead-Robins said police were there within 30 seconds.

"I'm really impressed," he said.

The thieves had loaded the two computers into a vehicle, also stolen,but ended up running away when police arrived. Police seizedthe vehicle, which had the keys still in the ignition.

RCMP are asking anybody with information to contact them.

Mead-Robins says he's pleased that police were so quick to respond.

"I think local communities and businesses and individuals are really tired of the rash of break-and-enters, and just crimethat's been happening. It's really sad," he said.
