Whitehorse man killed in weekend collision on Alaska Highway

A Whitehorse man is dead after a weekend collision on the Alaska Highway in the city.

In a news release on Monday, RCMP say the collision happened at about 2 a.m. Saturday near the city's Porter Creek neighbourhood and involved a tractor trailer and a pickup truck.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck, a37-year-old man, was found dead at the scene.

A section of the Alaska Highway was closed to traffic through most of Saturday and a detour was set up. The highway re-opened around 5 p.m. that day.

RCMP have released no other details, including the name of the deceased man.

Police say they continue to investigate along with the territory'scoroner service.

"Sometimes these things take time," said RCMPspokesperson Calista MacLeod.

"When a traffic collision analyst does collect evidence and gather information from the scene, it does take some time to prepare that kind of information, in addition to the other investigative avenues."
