Toilet fire in Whitehorse park deemed suspicious

Whitehorse RCMP are investigating after a portable toilet caught fire in Shipyards Park around 2 a.m. Friday.

Whitehorse RCMP are investigating after a portable toilet caught fire in Shipyards Park early Friday morning.

Const.DeanHooglandsays police were called to the park just before 2 a.m. The fire was in aportable toiletnear the tracksin the market area.

"The flames were contained to inside the unit," said Hoogland. "The fire department quickly extinguished this fire."

He says the fire wassuspicious in nature so police are continuing with the investigation, but haven't identified any suspects.

This isn't the first portable toilet fire in Whitehorse. Six toilets were set ablaze and destroyed in Rotary Peace Park in October 2011.
