Team Nunavut scratches from 3,300-km Nfld. snowmobile race

The only team from Nunavut has scratched the Cain's Quest, a snowmobile race from Labrador City, N.L. to Nunavik, Que.

Team Nunavut has scratched from a 3,300-kilometresnowmobile race out ofLabrador City, N.L.

The only team representing the three territories scratched from the Cain's Quest, after reaching the second checkpoint in Goose Bay, N.L.
Twenty-nineteams are competing in Cain's Quest, anannual race inLabrador. It'sconsidered the longest race of its kind in the world.

At stake is a $100,000 purse, including $50,000 for first place, $30,000 for second and $20,000 for third.

That purse won't be coming home to the North though; teamNunavut, the only representativefrom the three territories, scratched Saturday, after reaching the race's second checkpoint in Goose Bay, N.L.

The team included Iqaluit's Jason Aliqatuqtuq and Jimmy Noble Jr., both considered avid outdoorsmen and snowmobilers.
