Suspicious fire destroys cabin outside Hay River

A cabin on Highway 2 outside Hay River, N.W.T., burned to the ground Monday night inwhat police are deeming a suspicious fire.

RCMP and the fire department responded to a call about the fire at about 9 p.m., but by the time police arrived the cabin had burned to the ground.

Jean Desnoyers, who owns the property the cabin is on, says he doesn't know what caused the fire.

"I was there yesterday myself;everything was OK," he said.

Desnoyers saidthere were some people staying in the cabin until recently.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.An RCMP investigation is underway.
