Yellowknife Mounties make arrests after handgun threat

Police describe 'high-risk takedown' of vehicle outside downtown bar
The two men accused of handgun offences are set to appear in Yellowknife court Tuesday.

Yellowknife RCMP have accused two B.C. residents of pointing a loaded handgun outside a downtown bar early Sunday morning.

The police said they were called to the scene around 3:10am on Sunday and then pursued the suspects vehicle and arrested them during a "high-risk takedown."

Both are accused of pointing the loaded gun in a threatening manner outside a nightclub on 50th Street.

According to the RCMP a loaded handgun was found in the vehicle and the two men were also found to be in possession of narcotics and a substantial amount of cash.

A 17 year old youth and a 21 year old man, both from the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia, will appear in court in Yellowknife Territorial Court on March 12.

Both have been charged with four offences including possession of a restricted firearm,possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a weapon in a vehicle.

The 17 year old has been charged with one further offence of possession of a narcotic.

Both accused remain in custody at this time. According to police, no one was injured during the incident or arrest.
