Yukon's warm weather increases avalanche risk

The Canadian Avalanche Centre is warning people to stay out of Yukon's backcountry as the warmer temperatures and snowfall could result in elevated avalanche danger.

The centre says a change in weather could affect the existing weak snow layers and set off avalanches. Those can also be triggered by skiers, snowmobiles or other activities.

The centre is warning Yukoners to avoid the backcountry for a few days.It's hopingexpected cooling and more snowfall will allow the snowpack to stabilize.
