A shed fire Wednesday morning in Iqaluit is raising concerns for the safety of people who live in them.

Deputy fire chief George Seigler says not knowing who owns the sheds and whether people live in them is an issue.

The beachfront shed that caught fire this morningis occupiedbut no one was there at the time of the fire.

Seigler says people living in the sheds also face major fire safety issues.

"They don't have the proper ventilation, so you have the possibility of CO poisoning, not to mention there's always the issues and safety concerns regarding Coleman stoves and other combustibles in there as well."

Seigler says there was a Coleman stove in the shed that burned Wednesday.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

According to the Iqaluit Fire Department's annual report, there were six shed firesin 2013.
