Sahtu winter road restrictions postponed

The N.W.T. Transportation department says due to current temperatures and forecasted windchills the night time travel advisory has been postponed.

The Northwest Territories Transportation department has postponed restrictions on the Sahtu winter road.

It says because of current temperatures and forecasted windchills the restrictions are not needed now. But it says conditions will be monitored over the next week and night time travel restrictions could be implemented on the MackenzieValley Winter Road System with little or no notice.

The Sahtu winter road restrictions were to take effect Mondaymorning.

When they come into place truck drivers are asked to pull over in designated rest orparking areas during the day.

The restrictions don't affect regular vehicles. The winter road is open all day to vehicles weighing 5,000 kg or less.
