Nunavut landline phone services restored, Northwestel says

Landline phone customers in Nunavut should not be having any service issues anymore, says aNorthwestel spokesperson.

In an emailed statement, Andrew Anderson, the company's director of communications,said the Nunavut landline phone network experienced congestion Mondaynight due to "much higher than average use."

"The network was operational but some calls would not have been able to get through," Anderson wrote."Traffic levels have returned to normal and landline phone customers should not experience any issues at this time."

The Nunavut RCMPwarned the public on Tuesday (and on social media Monday evening) thatNorthwestel wasexperiencing an "unplanned network outage" Tuesday morning and that it wasaffecting services for Nunavut, outside of Iqaluit.

At the time, it told peopleto visit the local detachment in the eventof an emergency and living outside of the capital,in a news release.

In a news release Tuesday evening, RCMP said all emergency lines into the RCMPwere fully workingagain.
