Norman Wells, N.W.T., running low on gasoline

Norman Wells, N.W.T., is running low on gasoline in the weeks leading up to the arrival of its resupply barge.

First resupply barge of season expected on June 20

Norman Wells, N.W.T., is running low on gasoline in the weeks leading up to the arrival of its resupply barge.

The company that sells gas to the community says there was more activity in town than usual this winter, and supplies are down.

Alexis Peachey, office manager for SRP Petroleum, says there will be enough gas to go around if people conserve.

"No one is without gas and if everybody takes their time to [think] do I really need to drive to this place or this place and car pools, and doesn't idle their engines, if they decide to walk, bike or quad instead, there will be no shortage," she said.

"We will have fuel up to getting the first barge in."

The first barge of gasoline is expected to arrive in Norman Wells on June 20.

Until then SRP is watching the levels closely. Residents will not be allowed to fill up extra jerry cans, but they can still fill up their vehicles.
