Whitehorse RCMP are investigating after a man's throat was cut at the Riverview Hotel Saturday.

Police say the incident happened inside a room at the hotel around 7:45 p.m.

"This is an isolated incident where the suspect and victim are known to each other," said Const. Natasha Dunmall, spokesperson for Whitehorse RCMP.

"It appears that a verbal argument escalated to physical violence with the suspect allegedly pulling a knife and cutting the victim's throat."

A 32-year-old man was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital where he was treated and released.

Dunmall says police have identified a suspect, but no arrest has been made yet.

RCMP say alcohol appears to be a contributing factor.
