Mackenzie Valley winter road gets reprieve

The road between Wrigley and the Deline junction will remain open until Friday, April 6 at noon.

Cold weather postpones closure of road between Wrigley and Deline to Friday

The Mackenzie Valley winter road system is staying open a little longer due to the recent cold temperatures.

The road between Wrigley and the Deline junction will remain open until Friday, April 6 at noon. The N.W.T. Department of Transportation had planned to close the road for the season on Monday.

Not only has the department postponed the closure, but daytime travel restrictions for commercial vehicles have also been lifted.

The department warns that other sections of the Mackenzie Valley winter road system will close with little or no notice when they are no longer safe to travel on or when damage to the land could occur from further use.

The Trout Lake winter road and the Nahanni Butte ice crossing closed for the season on Monday.

The Highway 3 ice crossing over the Mackenzie River at Fort Providence is expected to close for the season between April 10 and 20.

The Highway 1 ice crossings over the Liard River at Fort Simpson and over the Mackenzie River at Ndulee are expected to close between April 10 and 25.
