Loretta Edjericon case: Daughter unhappy with RCMP review

Margo Edjericonsays she is not satisfied with the RCMP's decision not to charge apolice officer she alleges assaulted her elderly mother in Fort Resolution, N.W.T.

TheRCMP announced Monday they are not laying charges in connection with the complaint after an external review by the Medicine Hat Police Service.

Edjericonalleged an RCMP officer elbowed her 71-year-old motherLorettain the face and pinned her against the wall while officers searched her house for a young woman.

A senior officer from the RCMP's G Division investigated the complaint and found that no charges were warranted against the police officers who went into the home. After the internal investigation was completed, RCMP management ordered an external investigation, which was conducted by the Medicine Hat Police Service.

"The results of the Medicine Hat Police Service external review concurred that no charges are recommended against any Member of the Fort Resolution RCMP," reads an RCMP news release on the incident, issued Monday night.

Edjericonsays she's looking into getting a lawyer and plans to bring her concerns to the Commission for Public Complaints against the RCMP.

RCMP say the case is not yet closed.

"The images that were seen in the media were very disturbing," police said in the news release.

"Photos were shown of an elder who was the victim of violence. The investigation into the cause of the victims injuries is not closed. The G Division RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to assist the Fort Resolution RCMP in their investigation."

They say theymay make more details of their investigationavailable Wednesday after speaking with the family.
