Kangirsuk plane crash victims identified by police

The Sret du Qubec have released the names of the three people killed in a plane crash near Kangirsuk, Nunavik, on Thursday.

Robert Drapeau, 48, and his son, 23-year-old Alexandre Veilleux, of Val-d'Or, Que., were the passengers in the small twin-engine airplane.

The pilot was 77-year-old Jean Robert Corbin, from Winnipeg.

Drapeau's family says he was on his way up to Kangirsuk where he owned a construction company called Kong-struction.He was also bringing up food for local Inuit.

His son wasalong for the ride and was supposed to return with the pilot.

The Sret du Qubec confirmed that they are investigating the crash, which occurred on the night of June 11 Thursday south of the Kangirsuk airport. CFB Trenton dispatched aircraft to the scene upon receiving an emergency locator transmitter message Thursday at 11:30 p.m.

The aircraft, a small, twin-engine Piper PA-23 Aztec, was not on a flight plan.

Transportation Safety Board officials said Monday that they will not be conducting a full investigation into the crash.

TSB spokespersonJulieLerouxsaid that's because the board does not believe it would"advance transportation safety."
