House fire in Yellowknife's Kam Lake under investigation

When crews approached the home it appeared the front corner of the deck and the entire roof were on fire.

1 person and 2 cats got out safely

Fire officials in Yellowknife are looking into what caused a fire at a home in the Kam Lake Industrial ParkFriday.

Firefighters arrived around 6 p.m. to 124 Enterprise Dr. at the back end of Kam Lake.

When they approached the home, crews could see a lot of black smoke, according to a press release from the City of Yellowknife. It appeared the front corner of the deck and the entire roof were on fire.

RCMP were on the scene when fire crews got there and had already confirmed that the only person inside the home, along with two cats, had escaped.

Crews made sure the fire didn't spread by spraying water onto the roofas well as around the house itselfto protect a nearby shed and the home next door.

Firefightersput out the blaze and stuck around throughout the night to deal with any hotspots inside.

16 personnel respondedwith one aerial pumper, an ambulance, a rescue truck, two water tankers and a command vehicle.

This is the third house fire in Yellowknife within the last two weeks.
