Iqaluit lifts boil water advisory, following water main break

The city of Iqaluit has lifted a boil water advisory that's been in place since Tuesday.

Nunavut's health department said Friday that two straight water samples showed no signs of bacterial contamination.

The boil advisory applied to buildings 157, 159, 161, 163 on Nipisa Street, between Queen Elizabeth Way and Kuugalaaq Street. People living in those areas can now consume tap water without boiling it, the department said.

The advisory was issued as a precaution after a water main in the city centre sprung several leaks, interrupting the water supply to most of downtown.

The water supply was restored Tuesday.
