Blizzard shuts down Iqaluit: full closure listings

CBC Nunavut's morning newsreader, Jane Sponagle, and the CBC morning team were among the few people who went to work this morning while a blizzard shut down nearly everything.

The city is shut down, Arctic Winter Games hockey games weredelayed, the hospital is open only for emergencies and many businesses are closed as Iqaluit weathers another blizzard.

Environment Canada is predicting wind northwest at 70 km/h gusting to 90 this morning.It's -23 C in the capital but feels like -41.

Winds are expected to drop slightly late this afternoon with the temperature dropping to -25 C, which will feel more like -43.

Several offices andbusinesses areclosed, including:

CBC Nunavut staff have also been instructed to stay home until further notice something that rarely happens.
