Injured climber airlifted from Mount Logan, Yukon

Staff with Parks Canada have rescued two climbers stranded on Mount Logan, Yukon in the Kluane National Park and Reserve.

On May 26, the climbers contacted Parks Canada for emergency assistance. The climbing party consisted of a guide and one client.

The partywas descending from Prospector's Peak on the King's Trench route at an elevation of about 4,700 metres when the clientfell and injured his knee, Parks Canada said in a news release.

"Due to the nature of the injury and the technical terrain below, they were unable to continue their descent," Parks Canada said.

A rescue pilot and two Parks Canada staff retrieved the climbers by helicopter later that day. The injured climber was transported to Haines Junction, Yukon for medical assistance.

Parks Canada has issued 54 mountaineering permits to climb Mount Logan this year. Staff have successfully conducted three high altitude rescues since April.
