In Fort Smith, Arctic Sports champs run in the family

Traditional games are passed down from generation to generation, and the McDonald family of Fort Smith, N.W.T., has dominated in Arctic Sports at the Arctic Winter Games for two generations now.

It was about 20 years ago that Tim McDonald started training his daughter Meika McDonald in Arctic Sports such ashigh kick and kneel jump. Meika broke world records at the Arctic Winter Games.

Her daughter Veronica, 19, now holds the junior world record for kneel jump. Veronica was also trained by Tim.

On Tuesdayshe won a silver uluin the event, another silver in the arm pull, and won gold in the two-foot high kick.

This year, Veronica's younger sisterKezia, 12, iscompetingat the games for the first time.

You get to sort of live all these exciting times through your children and grandchildren and its wonderful, Tim says.
