The Hay River, N.W.T., trial of Kevin Glenn Larsen, charged with manslaughter in the death of Brent Darrell Nixon, was declared a mistrial Tuesday.

Lawyers unable to select a jury

The Hay River, N.W.T., trial of Kevin Glenn Larsen, charged with manslaughter in the death of Brent Darrell Nixon, was declared a mistrial Tuesday.

The judge made that decision because the Crown and defence lawyers were unable to select a jury.

A new trial will be scheduled and although the defence is opposed, it may not be held in Hay River.

It could take up to a year for the new trial to take place.

Defence lawyer Caroline Wawzonek said they are disappointed the trial can't go ahead.

Nixon, 50, was found unresponsive outside the Royal Canadian Legion in Hay River on Aug. 14, 2010. He later died in hospital.
