First Air and flight attendants reach tentative deal

First Air and the Canadian Union of Public Employees reached a tentative deal through a federal conciliator this week.

First Air and the union representing the airline's flight attendants have reached a tentative deal.

The Canadian Union of Public Employeesrepresents the airline's 87 flight attendants in Yellowknife, Edmonton, Iqaluit and Ottawa. The flight attendants have been without a contract since April of this year.

"The meeting that was agreed upon was Sept. 8, with the federal conciliator on neutral territory," said Ken Smith, president ofCUPE'sFirst Air Component.

"We met for 18hours and through that arduous process we were able to come to a resolve that both parties were very happy with."

The workerswill vote on the new deal in the coming weeks. If accepted, the new contract will last 22months, to December 2015. Details are not being made publicuntil after the vote.
