Fire at Yellowknife's Wildcat Caf caused by malfunctioning stove, says city

The City of Yellowknife says a fire that shut down the Wildcat Caf for the rest of the season has been traced to an oven and range, rather than electrical issues.

The restaurant closed for repairs last week after a firebroke outaround dinner time, while it was full of staff and customers. Firefighters opened up the back wall of the building and extinguished what was believed at the time to be an electrical fire.

In an update Thursday, the city said an investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal linked the fire instead to a propane-fuelled range and oven that wasn't working properly.

"The city continues to work diligently with contractors to repair the building," it stated.
