Eric Dejaeger, former priest, to plead guilty to Alberta charges

Convicted sex offender and former priest Eric Dejaeger will plead guilty to charges dating to the mid-1970s, when he was studying at the Newman Theological College in Edmonton.

Convicted sexoffender and former priestEric Dejaeger will plead guilty to Alberta-based charges that date to the mid-1970s.

Dejaegerfaces two countsofgross indecency, one count of indecent assault on a female and one count of indecent assault on a male.

Theoffences were allegedly committed inthe period between 1975 and1978 when he was studying at the Newman Theological College in Edmonton.

Dejaeger had applied to have his Alberta charges heard in Nunavut.He's in theprocess of having those charges "waived" from Albertato Nunavut, which means he's agreed to plead guilty to them and will be sentenced in Nunavut.

The Alberta Crown prosecutor's office said Dejaeger had signed the waiver shortly after beingconvicted last year in Iqaluit of sex-related charges involving Inuit children when he was serving as a priest in Igloolikbetween 1978 and 1982.

In an Iqaluitcourtroom Thursday, Nunavut Crown prosecutor Barry McLaren said the files still hadn't arrivedfrom Alberta.

The hearing has been adjourned to Sept. 29. That's whenDejaeger is expected to enter his pleaand hemaybe sentenced the same day,after the facts of the case have been submitted.
