Deline shoppers get bargains as Northern Store coolers fail

A mechanical mishap resulted in a massive blow-out sale at the Northern Store in Deline, N.W.T., Wednesday.

Community members say first the produce cooler broke down Wednesdaymorning.

An announcement about aflash sale went out over the radio in the community. Paulina Roche says within minutes, the store was packed with people looking for a deal.

"Half an hour later they announced on the radio ...that the frozen [food] freezer is down now, so all of the frozens are on sale, so everybody rushed back to the Northern."

Roche says the cooler and the freezer are just about all cleared out now.

She says with groceries being so expensive in Deline, it was thrilling to shop at the unexpected sale.
