Dawson City clears up outdated bylaws

Dawson City's town council is hoping to clear up a couple of the outdated laws on its books this week.

Mayor Wayne Potoroka says, from time to time, municipalities come across old bylaws that are no longer necessary.

"One that was still current, up until like two years ago, was you could dispose of a dead animal, like a dog, in the river, and the only offence to that bylaw was if the carcass got hung up on the willows along shore before it left the municipal boundary."

Dawson City's committee-of-the-whole holds its regular public meeting Tuesday night.

Potoroka said council hopes to wrap up closing a historic right-of-way for an old road that no longer exists. It also plans to amend a zoning bylaw to make the recycling depot that has been in downtown Dawson City for 20 years, legal.
