Early morning fire ravages Coyote's restaurant in Yellowknife

An early-morning blaze at Coyote's Bar & Grill has caused over $100,000 in damage, according to the City of Yellowknife.

There were no injuries but damage is estimated at more than $100K

An early-morning blaze atCoyote's Bar & Grillhas caused over $100,000 in damage, according to the City of Yellowknife.

The city says it was alerted tothe firejust before 5 a.m. MT Sunday,when it received reports ofsmoke coming from a businessat 484 Range Lake Rd.

Fire crews arrived on scene quickly and summoned extra firefighters and equipment to assist with the blaze. Altogether, 25 crew members were involved, according to the city.

Firefighters were able to get to the main blaze at the back of the structure, where it was contained. They were then able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it, but not before extensive damage was done.

The city estimates the fire caused more than $100,000 in damage to the building and its contents.

There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The investigation is now in the hands of the N.W.T. Office of the Fire Marshal.

Restaurateur sentfood to Nunavut

Coyote's ownerEd Butmade the news just last monthfor sendingfresh fruit toschools in Kugluktuk, Nunavut.He said he decided to do thatwhen he became aware ofhigh costs of foodin the territory.

"Abig chunk of my customers are from Nunavut," he told CBC News at the time. "They are supporting me. How can I support them?"

But also said he woulddonate a portion of every Coyote's bill to the program on Mondays and Tuesdays, if customers signed their bill and put it in a donation box.
