CBC Asks: How do we keep Indigenous women and girls safe?

After years of testimony from well over 2,000 Canadians, the final report from the National Inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls states that "persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada's staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people."

CBC North is following up on this report with a special program, CBC Asks: How do we keep Indigenous women and girls safe?

This program embraces the report's call to action for media on exploring why so many Indigenous women and girls are murdered or go missing in the North, and what we can collectively do to reduce harm.

We're talking to Indigenous women about their own experiences. You'll hear personal stories from brave women who have first-hand experience with systemic violence. Specifically, how they healed and what still needs to change.

We will also include women who have experience with helping other Indigenous women escape violence, the streets, bad relationships and more.
