Canadian North flight diverted due to ice on propellers

A Canadian North Dash-8 106 on a scheduled flight from Igloolik to Iqaluit was diverted to Cape Dorset on Friday when the propellers started icing up.

Laval St.Germain, director of flight operations at the airline, says as the ice was building upit was causing an imbalance on the heated propellers and the pilot had to make a decision.

"He decided that with the severe icing that he would divert into Cape Dorset because he couldn't continue in those type of conditions."

St Germain says the icing was caused by abnormal weather conditions that day.

He says the ice melted while the plane was landing in Cape Dorset. The flight later continued on to Iqaluitwithout incident.
