11-year-old boy missing in Kugluktuk, Nunavut

People in Kugluktuk, Nunavut, are searching the community and surrounding area for an 11-year-old boy who has been missing since Thursday morning.

Jonas Klengenbergwas reported missing Thursday by his family, RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Jonas left his home in the early morning hours Thursday wearing grey one-piece pyjamas and black and red shoes, according to his family.

The boy is described as four feet tall and weighing 52 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Jack Himiak, the unit leaderof the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Kugluktuk, said he and his team have been combing the river.

"Today is very windy, we're struggling to manoeuvre in this wind," he told CBC Friday. "But we're trying to do our best to cover a lot of area on the water."

Himiak also said theyreleased a mannequin in the river on Friday to track its float pattern.

Other boats are looking for the boy along the shore, while a scuba diver is looking in the river. The RCMP, Kugluktuk Search and Rescue and other volunteers are searching the area by foot and on ATVs, Himiak said.

"I'm hoping there will be a miracle and he will show up somehow," he said.
