Aggressive dogs spark tension in Ndilo, N.W.T.

A man who lives in N'dilo, N.W.T., says his community isn't safe because of aggressive dogs running loose, and an aggressive dog owner.

Michael Black says the situation is bad enough that he doesn't want to leave his own dog tied up in his backyard anymore.

Black lives in a house that backs on to a treed area. He says hes seen more and more loose dogs barking and fighting in the area.

On Saturday morning, he heard his dog yelping in pain.

I went outside, I see this big dog twice the size of my dog just choking his neck and all over so I run out, grab a two-by-four

Black says a boy hauled the larger dog off of his dog, before he could use the board.

The boy made no apologies for the attack.

And the next day, he came back.

Black says it seemed like he was using his aggressive dogs as bodyguards.

He's got two more dogs again. And I kick them. Stop kicking my dogs he said. Well get my dog out my yard, you're trespassing I said. Well I'm going to shoot you if you're going to do that.

Black says after the boy threatened him, he phoned the police.

He says the police investigated and told him that the young man wasn't dangerous because he only had a pellet gun.

You cant just have a big dog running around using it as a bodyguard, Blacksays. They should just tie up the dogs the way I tie up my dog.

Black says he still worries for his dog's safety, and for the safety of his three children.

A spokesperson for the RCMP says they're not planning any further investigations and there are no pending charges.
